Johor Bahru, 27 September 2024 — Students from Years 8, 9, 10, and 11 of R.E.A.L International School teamed up with Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) for a beach clean-up initiative at Stulang Laut. The project, designed to foster environmental awareness and community responsibility, saw students and MBJB Councillor Mr. Chong See Ming working hand-in-hand to clear the beach of litter and debris.
Speaking on behalf of MBJB, Mr. Chong See Ming said, "Collaborating with students in this gotong-royong effort is an excellent way to nurture a sense of environmental responsibility. It highlights how collective community actions can significantly improve the cleanliness and sustainability of our city."
Ms. Joane Ong, Head of International Secondary at R.E.A.L Schools, highlighted the educational benefits, stating, "This hands-on experience teaches our students the importance of environmental stewardship. They are learning beyond the classroom, actively contributing to their community, and understanding the impact of their actions on the environment."
Campus Principal Dr. Chandra reinforced how the initiative aligns with the school’s focus on learning through community engagement, saying, "Our emphasis on building strong community ties and integrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) into our curriculum is exemplified through this gotong-royong project. We aim to develop responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to society."
