Top 10 Places for R.E.A.L in Raffles Design Competition

Among the highlights for R.E.A.L Schools, Cheras Campus last year was the achievement of two of its Senior 4 students who were ranked among the Top 10 contestants in the 2015 Raffles Design Competition organized by premier private tertiary education provider, Raffles College.

This competition called out to school students with talents in graphic designing and drawing to show off their artistic skills by designing a tote bag. The challenge posed to them however, was that the concept of each tote bag design had to be based on a ‘cube’. Thus, it was indeed a daunting task to transform something as basic and inexpressive as a cube into something conceptual and eye-catching.

The outstanding talent of the two R.E.A.L Schools National students however, shone through, as their designs were adjudged to be worthy of a Top 10 finish based on popular vote by the public. Accumulating a total of 274 and 171 votes respectively, Lam Kar May and Lee Wei Keong made their school proud with the highly commendable feat. Both walked away with attractive prizes from leading stationery brand Faber-Castell and along with eight other participants from R.E.A.L Schools, Cheras Campus, received ‘Certificates of Participation’ in recognition of their efforts. Unsurprisingly, all 10 budding designers hailed from the school’s Arts stream.

This accomplishment is yet another feather in the cap for R.E.A.L Schools’ growing list of student achievements, while adding a new dimension to their plethora of skills and talents. Such examples of excellence are the desired outcome of R.E.A.L education, which constantly encourages students to explore and develop their innate abilities. In turn, the school is always geared towards providing the necessary platforms, avenues and opportunities for students to pursue their goals in whatever chosen field of interest. After all, a large part of R.E.A.L’s educational philosophy or practice is to guide and support students towards nurturing their potential to be the best they can be.

At the same time, creativity is an attribute which R.E.A.L aims to foster within every student. R.E.A.L Schools’ curriculum based on active learning allows for originality and innovation to flourish. Safe, supportive and stimulating classroom environments ensure that optimal learning takes place as well. This, along with other unique student experiences, is designed to produce young learners who are confident in expressing themselves, both intellectually and creatively. Thus, it is no coincidence that ‘Creativity’ is one of R.E.A.L’s 5C core values, which spurs students to not only come up with inventive ideas, but to have the courage to turn those ideas and dreams into reality.
