Philosopher and poet of ancient China, Lao Tze said, “If you correct your mind the rest of your life will fall into place.” Taking this to heart, the Pastoral Care department of R.E.A.L Schools, Suria Campus, Cheras, organized a talk by the police entitled ‘Jenayah dalam Kalangan Remaja’ (Crimes among Youth) on the morning of 4 March 2015 at the campus’ Hall of Character.
The talk was presented by guest speaker Sergeant Sandra from the Kajang Police Station, who delivered the presentation to the Senior 1 and 2 students of Sekolah Seri Suria with the intention of preventing youth crime while shaping exemplary citizens.
The talk was aimed at enlightening the Surians on the common social issues which youths face with regards to drug abuse, bullying, cyber crimes and how to best avoid and not be influenced by such negative behaviour. The students were attentive throughout as the subject matter dealt with real-life criminal accounts of youths which were both captivating and eye-opening.
The general sentiment in the audience was one of deep empathy, along with the realization that when poor choices are made in life, dire consequences will follow. Sessions such as this do not only discourage illegal and inappropriate behavior amongst students, but also serve to spur them on to be role models to others.
