Surians Shine in School Sports Meet

The annual Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah (MSS) sports meet which kicked off in January 2015 had just concluded last April; with the National Senior students from R.E.A.L Schools, Suria Campus, Cheras finding themselves in the limelight as they had outdone themselves especially in events involving basketball, table-tennis and swimming.

Some of these students also participated in the MSSS (Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Selangor) due to their strong performances in the MSSD (Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Daerah). These students were Yee Tan GuoJing (Senior 3 student from Passion class), Law Xin Yi (Senior 2 student from Joy class), Brandy Chew (Senior 3 student from Vision class) and Chong Yong Qi (Senior 3 student from Bold class). Their achievements in the MSSD Hulu Langat tournaments this year include:

  • 3rd Place in the ‘Boys Under-18 (Doubles) Table Tennis’
  • 3rd Place in the ‘Boys Under-15 Basketball’
  • Top 6 placing in the ‘Boys Under-18 Basketball’

Meanwhile, Surian accomplishments in MSSS tournaments thus far in 2015 include:

  • Brandy Chew (Swimming, Boys Under 15) – Gold medal
  • Chong Yong Qi (Swimming, Girl Under 15) – Silver medal
  • Yee Tan Guo Jing (Basketball, Boys Under 15) – Bronze medal
  • Law Xin Yi (Basketball, Girls Under 15) – Top 6 finish

Due to Brandy and Yong Qi’s stellar showing in the pools, both have automatically qualified for the MSSM (Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Malaysia) selection. Adding to the good news in the Surian camp was one of its teachers, Mr. Lim Wei Han, who was selected by the ‘Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah’ (PPD) to be one of their coaches in charge of the ‘Boys Under-18’ basketball team. The duties assigned to Mr. Lim by PPD were to select and train players for the MSSS meet.

On other sporting fronts, ice skater Khairil Ridhwan bin Khalil (Senior 3 student from Loyalty class) represented Malaysia at the International South East Asian 2014 Short Track Speed Skating Championship in Bangkok, Thailand back in December 2014. In the event, Khairil blazed his way on the rink to bag 2 golds and 1 silver medal, making everyone proud in the process.

With sports playing a vital role in the holistic development of an individual, R.E.A.L Schools has always emphasized to students the importance of playing sports and encouraged them to pursue their respective field of interest with passion and dedication. With the proper structure and support system in place at R.E.A.L Schools, both in terms of facilities and coaching, students are able to develop their talents in various disciplines within a safe, fun and conducive environment.
