In an effort to expand their scientific scope of knowledge, a total of 42 Senior 5 students from R.E.A.L Schools, Suria Campus, Cheras embarked on an educational excursion of discovery to the Petrosainscentre at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in the heart of KL.
Petrosains is a unique Science Discovery Centre that adopts a fun and interactive approach to tell visitors the story of science and technology within the context of the petroleum industry. Its overall concept and wealth of informative exhibits revolve mainly around the science of petroleum, while embracing all other scientific fields such as Physics, Biology and General Science.
The hands-on approach adopted by Petrosains emphasizes on exciting educational fun and learning rather than memorization of dry scientific facts. This is synonymous with the R.E.A.L Schools approach which is centred on ‘active learning’. In other words, students learn better by doing. Active learning also instills a deep-rooted sense of curiosity and wonder within students and spurs them on to always question ‘why’ about everything.
All in all, the school trip was organized orderly and went ahead without any hitches. More importantly, the students enjoyed their day out while broadening their horizons in the realm of science and technology. It is hoped that this trip would also foster a greater thirst and passion for scientific knowledge amongst them. Part and parcel of R.E.A.L Schools’ philosophy after all, is to provide learning platforms beyond books and the classroom environment.
