On the 27th of February 2016, R.E.A.L Schools Shah Alam Campus once again played host to the ‘ISAKL Under-16 Boys Football Tournament’. This time around, the meet attracted the participation of five football teams from three notable international schools, namely:
- R.E.A.L Schools, Shah Alam Campus
- Tenby Schools Ipoh, and
- Regent International School
Being the second time that R.E.A.L Schools was chosen to host this event is testament to the trust bestowed onto the school by members of ISAKL or International Schools Association of Kuala Lumpur. Only association members are eligible to participate in ISAKL-organized events.
With a total of 50 students making up the squads of the five teams, there was no shortage of on-field talent as the cheering crowd was treated to a showcase of skill, strength and stamina. Round after round of exciting matchups were on display which pitted one team against another in a battle of tactical nous and teamwork.
As the dust settled in the end; it was double delight for the host as R.E.A.L Schools National, Shah Alam Campus came up trumps by being crowned champions while R.E.A.L International School came close by clinching a commendable 2nd place. Third place went to Tenby Schools Ipoh followed by the Regent International School teams who finished 4th and 5th respectively.
With much emphasis being placed on the importance of grassroots development in sports, R.E.A.L Schools and ISAKL are certainly playing their part by providing platforms for students to pursue their passion in games like football as well as to develop their skills and talent from a young age. In the process, these events also allow students to build up their fitness and confidence levels in an environment that effectively fosters teamwork, unity and initiative.
The budding footballers were also taught and exposed to the values of sport such as respecting authority, your teammates and opponents; fair play and healthy competition; exemplary conduct on and off the pitch, as well as good sportsmanship regardless of match results.
It was both encouraging and entertaining to see the students exhibit their youthful energy, exuberance and enthusiasm en route to making their schools proud. Well done to the host for another successful staging of an ISAKL event, and for the outstanding outings of its two teams. This and other similar initiatives go a long way in promoting an active and healthy lifestyle amongst our youth and simultaneously, unearth new talents in the sporting arena.
