RIS Shah Alam Golfer Conquers the Greens

2016_sa_msngolf2Recently, R.E.A.L International School (RIS) took part in the Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) Elite Under-12 Golf Tournament.  The three-day tournament, part of the SportExcel national junior golf circuit, was jointly organised by Nestle Milo Malaysia and the National Sports Council (NSC) to develop young golfers with the skills to compete at various levels and to build and improve their finesse in the sport.

Since 2006, Milo has sponsored more than 200 sporting events like this to cultivate an active sports culture amongst Malaysians. This second leg of the national junior circuit was held at the Nilai Springs Golf and Country Club (NSGCC) in Negeri Sembilan and attracted participation from a host of promising talents from various schools nationwide.

2016_sa_msngolf3There was real cheer when Year 6 student Isaac from RIS, Shah Alam Campus conquered the greens to clinch First Place in the elite U12 category. He walked away with a winner’s trophy, certificate and gift hamper for his sterling efforts. This result is indeed a proud moment for both Isaac and the entire RIS team and it is hoped that this achievement would spur them on to obtain greater success in the coming legs of the junior golf circuit, with the next one slated to take place in October this year.

Known as a gentleman’s game, there are many advantages to golf despite its reputation as an expensive sport. Apart from being a great way to spend time outdoors, golf is a non-contact sport with minimal risk of injuries. The golf course also facilitates a safe and positive surrounding where students learn from mistakes in a supportive way. The nature of the sport cultivates good etiquette and values in students’ character such as honesty and patience which are applicable to school and daily life.
