Promoting the benefits of sports and other extracurricular activities has always been a key focus of R.E.A.L Schools and its continuous efforts to deliver holistic and balanced education. Besides cultivating a fit and healthy lifestyle, the various sporting meets held throughout the year allow the school to discover and nurture talents who could go on to realize their potential at a higher level.
The most recent event was the MIGS Invitational Girls Futsal Tournament, organized by the Mutiara International Grammar School (MIGS). Held earlier this year at Ampang Sports Planet, the Under-16 competition attracted participation from six other international schools, namely:
- Fairview International School Kuala Lumpur;
- Sunway International School (SIS);
- Tenby Schools Ipoh;
- Asia Pacific International School (APIS);
- Taylor’s International School (TIS); and
- R.E.A.L International School, Shah Alam Campus
Exclusive to girls below 16 years only, R.E.A.L International School (RIS) Shah Alam Campus sent its team of Year 10 and 11 girls to test their on-pitch skills with their fellow peers and have fun in the process. As the final whistle blew, the RIS team came close by clinching a highly respectable 2nd place in the standings! Year 10 student Christine even finished as 2nd highest scorer of the tournament.
With girls futsal competitions being few and far between, this tournament was certainly a praiseworthy and encouraging effort. It set out to provide a platform or avenue for players to develop their skills and talent at grassroots level, and was successful in doing so judging by the overall turnout and response.
Apart from allowing young female players to pursue their interest and passion in the sport, the event fostered a spirit of fun, healthy competition, sportsmanship, courtesy and respect for not only the game, but towards authority and opponents as well.
