Rewarding REAL Excellence

In order to breed excellence, we should recognize it as well. The annual R.E.A.L Excellence Awards is such a platform on which outstanding achievements by Sekolah Seri Suria students in both academic and extracurricular endeavours throughout the previous year are celebrated. This year’s edition of the awards ceremony proved no different.

Held on 11 April 2015 at the Hall of Character of R.E.A.L Schools’ Suria Campus in Cheras, the event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. S.P. Lee, Senior Principal and Business Manager of Suria Campus. This continued with a speech by Mr. Kenny Sim, Vice-President of Group Corporate Resources at R.E.A.L Education Group.

In his speech, Mr. Kenny enlightened the students on several key attributes which may either affect or enhance their future employability. These include English proficiency, solid work ethics and good interpersonal skills. Incidentally, these attributes also correspond to three of R.E.A.L’s ‘5C’ core values; Communication, Character and Collaboration respectively. These values, along with Critical Thinking and Creativity, are consistently nurtured amongst R.E.A.L students to equip them with qualities that are essential to both life and living.

The event proper continued with the awards ceremony punctuated by lively student performances such as a piano recital, choir singing, a gymnastics performance and even a Mongolian cultural dance that were dished out by both Junior and Senior students alike. The individual accolades were presented to top scorers in the following categories:

  • UPSR 2014 (for 5A and 4A students)
  • PT3 2014 (8A, 7A and 6A students)
  • SPM 2014 (11A, 10A, 9A, 8A and 7A students)

Meanwhile, the Co-Curricular Activities or CCA Awards, were given out to pay tribute to exceptional accomplishments in non-academic fields, particularly sports. This year’s event saw students being recognized for garnering medals in the following sporting meets:

  • International Judo Championship
  • 50th National Judo Championship
  • International Ice-Skating Competition
  • Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) Swimming Competition
  • Majlis Sukan Sekolah Selangor (MSSS) Swimming Competition

Other special awards that were given out include the Teachers’ Awards which paid homage to the outstanding contribution of the teachers who taught, guided and inspired the top UPSR, PT3 and SPM achievers. The Surian Awards was another eagerly-awaited category which recognizes students who displayed all-round excellence; not only in academics and CCA, but in exemplary character as well.
