July 17, 2016 will prove to be a memorable date for R.E.A.L Schools, Johor Bahru Campus as the school celebrated the official opening of its brand new international school building. The six-storey academic block not only houses classrooms but also a multi-purpose hall and various other facilities.
Esteemed guests from R.E.A.L Education Group, Trine University, as well as principals, teachers, staff, parents and students of the campus gathered to witness the momentous occasion. Adding to the celebratory mood that morning was the school’s annual International Day which was held over the same weekend with the theme ‘Carnival & Science Fair 2016’.
The launch event kicked off with a riveting lion dance performance that is traditionally believed to bless and bring luck to a new premise or home. This was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the distinguished guests-of-honour, namely:
- Sim Quan Seng, Founder and Chairman of R.E.A.L Education Group;
- Kenny Sim, Vice President of Group Corporate Resources, R.E.A.L Education Group;
- Joel Law, Special Assistant to the President, R.E.A.L Education Group;
- Stephanie Chieng, General Manager of R.E.A.L Schools, Johor Bahru Campus;
- Tan Soo Hoon, Principal of R.E.A.L International School, Johor Bahru Campus; and
- Stephen Sim, Vice President for International Affairs and Associate Professor of Management at Trine University
The VIPs and guests then proceeded to the school’s Hall of Character to be entertained by a host of student performances that included dance numbers and a solo piano recital. In his speech, Dr. Sim shared with the audience the ‘R.E.A.L Story’ and how he and two of his co-founders established R.E.A.L Schools more than 30 years ago. He also remarked how abundant and excellent facilities will attract more students to R.E.A.L in the face of ever-increasing competition in the market.
“One of my philosophies in life is to make this world a better place. Today, I can proudly say that the current R.E.A.L team and setup will continue to offer something different and with value. We will always improve and enhance our facilities to create better student experiences in our schools,” he added.
Meanwhile, in her welcome address, Ms. Stephanie took the opportunity to express her sincere gratitude to parents who have played a big role in the school’s growth. “I’m truly amazed and humbled by the support we have received from our parents all these years. My team and I realize that loyal customers should never be taken for granted. Hence, this morning’s ceremony is actually our appreciation for the support they have given us over the years,” she said.
The new international block is R.E.A.L Schools’ latest effort in constantly providing students with high quality education in terms of facilities and learning environment. Much like the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa and Brandenburg Gate that was on display during the school’s International Day, it is hoped that this new building will prove to be equally enduring and a defining icon for R.E.A.L in years to come.
