In keeping with the ethos of R.E.A.L’s 5C core values, creativity has always been part and parcel of the R.E.A.L Schools curriculum. Students are offered exceptional learning experiences that form a dynamic learning environment which in turn, promotes creativity.
With this in mind, ‘SOLIS 2016: The Surian Yearbook’ in collaboration with PCP Publications – a representative of Fujifilm – organized the ‘Fujifilm Youth Photography Workshop’ at R.E.A.L Schools National, Cheras Campus earlier this year. The four-and-a-half-hour workshop was attended by 41 members of SOLIS 2016 with the aim of honing the Senior students’ photography skills as well as to unearth hidden talents in the field.
Staying true to these objectives, the workshop offered a platform to further educate students on visual literacy and proper photography practices. Apart from gaining exposure on the best photography techniques, students were also shown samples of professionally-snapped photos taken in different situations and locations. They also gained vital hands-on experience by exploring various photography techniques while shooting photos in and around the school.
Above all, participants managed to pick up the finer details on how cameras work while appreciating the power of their images. In today’s digital age, photography is used to communicate and transform ideas, convey messages and connect people. This workshop enabled students to embark on a fun photography voyage that is illustrated from various perspectives, so as to create expert photographic works.
Before the workshop ended, each student was allowed to print one photograph of his or her choice as a memento to bring home. Out of the 41 participants, eight winners were selected and rewarded by PCP Publications for their outstanding shots. At the end of the day, this activity is yet another example of R.E.A.L Schools’ effort in inspiring and celebrating students’ multi-faceted skills. As Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun”. This workshop has gone a long way in successfully delivering on that note.
