Brought to you by CREW or Creative REAL Entertainment World, the students of R.E.A.L Schools, Shah Alam Campus proudly presented their eagerly-awaited event of the year, ‘Cahayan Got Talent’. The major event, which took place on 22 April 2017 and opened to the public, is a fine example of the school’s practice of always offering balanced, engaging and all-round education that transcends mere academic pursuits.
This event is the culmination of months of hard work that first kicked off in January when students immersed themselves in every stage of the competition from auditions and casting to hours of training by experienced performing arts coaches. Several Saturdays between January and April were even reserved for half-day practices to help our budding students sharpen their skills as well as stage performance in preparation for the big day. In total, 90 students participated and there were 25 crew members who contributed their time and energy to this campus-wide undertaking.
What made this bold initiative stand out is the fact that the students were involved in almost all aspects of the production process. Besides providing a priceless platform to showcase their innate talents and creativity on stage, students were also exposed to other skills such as event management, marketing & promotion, photography and even food & beverage!
Entertainment however, was what the four-hour extravaganza was all about and it definitely did not disappoint in that area; with hard-rocking band ‘Nightsky’, rhythmic gymnast Xian Qi and Indian classical dancers (and sibling duo) ‘Y&H Dancers’ among those who stole the show. The stiff competition and high standard of performances certainly brought out the best in the participants, much to the audience’s delight.
The judges, who had the tough and unenviable task of selecting the winners, eventually decided on the following:
Junior Category: Senior Group Category: Senior Solo Category:
1st – The Wonder Girls 1st – Y&H Dancers 1st – Lim Xian Qi
2nd – Puteri Elena Damia 2nd – 0102 2nd – Amity
3rd – Sara Qadeeja 3rd – Duet Performance 3rd – Ayman Norudin
Best Performance (Junior Category) – Akshey Ryan Kumar
Best Performance (Senior Category) – Y&H Dancers
Best Vocal Performance Overall Challenge Trophy – Iriss Layamansa
Best Performance Overall Challenge Trophy – Duet Performance
“Such an event would not have been possible without our kind and generous sponsors as well,” said Cikgu Hisham, the man responsible for directing the project. His crew had worked hard to ensure that all technical details are met in order to maximise participant and audience experience, which included documenting every step of the event through photography and video that will be compiled and turned into a DVD.
Overall, students got to experience how an event like this is brought to fruition from scratch; as well as working together for a common cause whilst forging stronger bonds with their teachers. Above all, it is about having fun despite facing inevitable challenges.
