‘Be Our Guest’ at Shah Alam Campus’ Beauty and the Beast

R.E.A.L Schools, Shah Alam Campus’ National Junior section held its annual concert 29 and 30 September 2017. The chosen theme for this year’s concert was the timeless classic, ‘Beauty and the Beast’. The popular fairy tale that is close to everyone’s heart was adapted into a musical drama involving a total of 350 students and offered intrigue, excitement, and humour.

Three months of hard work and preparation finally culminated in a one-and-a-half-hour production which ran for two consecutive days. The play kicked off by introducing Belle, a compassionate and beautiful girl who did not seem to quite fit in with the rest of the villagers. The musical then continued with other memorable numbers that include Gaston’s dance and ‘Be Our Guest’.

This version of ‘Beauty and the Beast however, had a unique twist by incorporating a slew of modern music, dance, and songs throughout; which caught the audience by surprise and left them both bemused and thoroughly entertained at the same time. Apart from praiseworthy performances by the budding young actors, singers and dancers; what brought lovable characters like Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Lefou to life were the wonderful costumes and make-up.

This splendid musical served as a priceless public platform to increase students’ self confidence and talent development in various disciplines within the field of performing arts. They learnt lessons on commitment and dedication towards a common cause, while facing inevitable challenges which they managed to overcome along the way.

This year’s musical also proved that the spirit of collaboration and creativity within the Shah Alam Campus community is truly alive and well; while echoing the message that students should be presented with ample opportunities to shine and to showcase their talents; be it through performing arts, sports or any other extracurricular endeavour. In short, such transformative learning experiences are vital to students’ overall development and future success.
