In recognition of a teacher’s selfless and invaluable contribution towards students’ success and well-being, a special Teachers’ Day Celebration was organised by the Senior 5 students of R.E.A.L Schools, Cheras Campus with the theme ‘Back to School’. This year’s unique event however, saw the roles reversed as the teachers became students for the day and even came dressed in school uniforms!
Seeing their beloved teachers donning various coloured uniforms drew much cheer and laughter from the students as the teachers made their way into the Hall of Character. “The purpose of this theme is for the teachers to reminisce about and relive the good old days as a student,” said Irene Hee from Senior 5 Grace and President of the Teachers’ Day Celebration.
The event commenced with a welcoming speech by the school’s Head Prefect, H’ng Kher Yin, which preceded the opening speech by Senior Principal, Mr Yu Weng Hong. Senior Assistant, Mr. Darmindar Singh, then led all teachers up on stage to read aloud the teachers’ pledge which was followed by the teachers’ song. Keeping with the spirit of honour and respect, a Teachers’ Appreciation Tea Ceremony then took place where students served tea to all the teachers as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
On the whole, the two-hour event was filled with captivating dance performances and video presentations by the students which kept everyone entertained throughout. The memorable event ended with the Senior 5 students presenting flowers and ‘Report Cards’ to every teacher, which was in line with the theme of the day and contained glowing tributes. As the true stars of the show, the students took great effort to ensure that their teachers enjoyed every minute of the day.
A teacher is like a candle that consumes itself to light the way for others. Beyond teaching, they also shape students to be good citizens with exemplary character. Good teachers do not only educate the mind but the heart as well. At R.E.A.L Schools, students readily recognize and acknowledge this fact and the vital role that their teachers play in providing them with a transformative learning experience; one that nurtures them into confident, competent and committed learners.
