In September this year, R.E.A.L Schools National, Cheras Campus sent a team to participate in the district-level ‘MSSD Olimpik Muda 2016’ basketball tournament. The team, consisting of 22 Senior 1 and 2 students, competed in the Under-14 Boys and Girls categories of the meet which was held at the JKKK Basketball Court in Kampung Baru Semenyih.
This latest endeavour forms part of the Ministry of Education’s ‘1M 1S’ (1 Murid 1 Sukan) policy in which participation in sports is a requirement for every school student. The policy serves as a lynchpin of the National Education Philosophy which stresses the importance of extracurricular activity in shaping students with all-round intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical competence.
The R.E.A.L Schools team managed to clinch a commendable Top 6 spot for the U-14 Boys category while the Girls finished joint 5th and 6th place. It is also worth noting that Senior 2 student Adam was drafted into the ‘Hulu Langat Olimpik Muda’ team that represented the district in the state-level MSSS Basketball Tournament which took place last month.
The ‘1M 1S’ policy, with its core message of “Sports for All, Sports for Excellence”, aims to not only attract and increase students’ participation in sports but also ignite their passion in similarly active pursuits by providing various exciting opportunities and platforms. Supporting this initiative is the ‘Sukan Prestasi Tinggi Sekolah’ (SPTS) programme. It is hoped that in the long run, sporting excellence from grassroots level would contribute towards the development of society and the nation.
For this reason, it has always been R.E.A.L’s priority to place equal emphasis on extracurricular activities in school. To further spark and sustain student interest, extra efforts to collaborate with the community are also initiated by the school. These include organizing various events and tournaments that help to drive our youth’s sporting ambitions. At R.E.A.L, academic accomplishments are balanced with extracurricular excellence to produce truly sound education.
