At the heart of good leadership lie a passion and vision for change. Education at R.E.A.L Schools aims to kindle this passion, build confidence and nurture aspirations among student leaders especially. In an effort to encourage personal growth and becoming effective agents of change, the Prefectorial Board of R.E.A.L Schools National, Cheras Campus in collaboration with the Senior Section CCA Department held their annual Leadership Camp in March this year.
The three-day camp was held at Lembah Nur Pangsun Resort in Hulu Langat, Selangor. A total of 47 Senior 1 to 5 students accompanied by teachers from the Pastoral Care Department participated in the camp, which aimed at developing leadership skills and nurturing leadership qualities among the participants.
Activities were divided into three main components; talks and lectures, outdoor activities and team-building games and activities. The talks focused on developing participants’ mindset to be a great leader. The camp’s committee also collaborated with the resort’s outdoor team to organize exciting outdoor activities such as ‘Explorace’ and ‘High Rope’ that were designed to test and build problem solving skills, perseverance and endurance.
A host of team-building activities were also held throughout the camp such as ‘Protect Your Eggs’, ‘Team Flag Design’, ‘Water Volleyball’ and ‘Best Leader’. Through these activities, participants were able to demonstrate their teamwork and leadership styles in order to complete each given task successfully.
It is also worth mentioning that this year’s Leadership Camp was the first ever facilitated by the Senior 5 prefects as part of their training to become the school leaders. The facilitators were mainly in charge of the event flow and participants’ discipline throughout the camp. Khairil Ridhwan was the Head facilitator and he was assisted by six other prefects. With the theme ‘Survival’, participants were aptly exposed to unfamiliar natural surroundings and experienced staying in tents.
As the camp came to a close, the team that best showcased the desired qualities were awarded ‘Best Team’. The ‘Best Leader’ title went to Harith Lim for demonstrating strong leadership skills while Zafri Akmal was awarded ‘Best Facilitator’ for his all-round contribution throughout. Leadership Camp is part of R.E.A.L Schools’ commitment in providing students with opportunities to identify and develop personal values, build stronger interpersonal relationships as well as cultivate leadership skills. It is hoped that this initiative would bring them a step closer to becoming exemplary leaders in the future.
